When you are looking for small business courses, do not forget the offerings by the Small Business Administration and other state and federal agencies. You can find a lot of small business management courses – some free and some fee based – to target the exact nature of your business and teach you the things you need to know to run your business.  

If you are in a start-up mode, your business training is even more important. Without the training and background you need, you might make a lot of mistakes and if those mistakes are major mistakes you might not get a chance to build a successful business.   

Whether you want to learn about business assets, depreciation, payroll taxes or labor law, there are courses you can take to help you better manage your small business.  

You can take small business management courses at your local community college. These colleges have courses in financial management, business administration and marketing and advertising. Community college credits are relatively inexpensive and may offer a convenient way for you to get the training you need.

If you do not have the time to take a small business course at your local college, you can also take small business courses online. The Small Business Administration offers online courses and workshops and you can even find information on how to write a good business plan to start your small business.  

You don’t need to take a class in every subject available, but a good financial accounting or bookkeeping class is a good training course to take so you know how to manage your books and your expenses.  

You can also find plenty of books at your local bookstore or online to teach you how to manage your small business. These books offer in depth information on a variety of small business management topics and some even provide exercises and work books to expand the training.  

Choose the method and price range that is right for you. You may feel you don’t have the time to attend a small business management course but what you learn will help you run your business more successfully.
